Environment, Fair Trade

How ethical is your cup of coffee?

I like coffee. I try to live in an ethical, sustainable way. I know many of you who read this blog are the same. Often these two things can be hard to match up. What we need is some kind of report and research telling us which coffee shops are the most ethical, the difference between Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance, which are the most environmentally friendly and other useful information which will help us drink the best coffee out there.

Luckily for us Ethical Consumer has just released such a report and you find it here.

Mostly I tend to go to Starbucks- especially since they made the majority of their coffee Fair Trade. Unfortunately it turns out there is more to ethical coffee than a Fair Trade mark, and they came last in the report with a lowly rating of 6 and a half out of 20. AMT came top, with Costa second and BB’s Coffee and Muffins third.

As I live in Swansea, which sometimes feels like the end of the world, only one of those three outlets exist in the city, so I shall now be frequenting Costa whenever I want a tasty, ethical coffee beverage.
